Overview

IGFA's own two-day billfish release tournament at Marina Pez Vela, Quepos, fished under IGFA rules on 30-lb tackle with video-verified releases.

The IGFA Open debuted at Marina Pez Vela in 2025 and returned March 12-14, 2026, when the fleet released more than 1,200 billfish. Billfish are catch-and-release only (blue/black marlin 400 pts, striped 200, sailfish/spearfish 100) with heaviest dorado and yellowfin tuna weight awards; optional jackpots are handled by CatchStat.

The 2027 event is set for March 11-13 with a $5,000 general entry that includes a $1,500 donation to the IGFA.
