Overview
Two-day 'four flags' HMTS tournament in late June that splits the base pot between the largest marlin, ahi, ono and mahi.
The Kona Kick Off opens Kona's summer tournament season with a competitively priced two-day format: the base purse is divided among the largest marlin, ahi, ono and mahi, with optional jackpots for each species plus marlin tag points.
Part of the Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series (HMTS), founded in 1987 and now operated by Marlin magazine's Marlin Group; series points accrue from tagged blue and striped marlin, large weighed blue marlin and weighed ahi. All HMTS events run out of Honokohau Harbor with registration and banquets at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club.
