Overview
Isla Mujeres' municipal international billfish tournament, now in its 21st edition, fished from the old wooden Muelle Fiscal with mandatory release of all billfish and a scale division for wahoo, dorado and tuna.
Instituted in 2004 and named for local fisherman Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña, the tournament is run by the Isla Mujeres municipal government and has grown into the island's flagship sport-fishing event, drawing boats from across Quintana Roo, the Yucatán and the US Gulf states.
Format is two fishing days out of the Muelle Fiscal de Madera. Blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish are release-only (video verified, points per release with a release grand slam bonus); wahoo, sierra, dorado, tuna, bonito and barracuda may be weighed (one per species per boat per day, 10 lb minimum). The 2026 edition advertised a purse of more than MX$900,000.
